Now that my sweet,
sweet baby is
oh-so-mobile, her presence has become more like a small but
chubby tornado. Just when I started feeling like I actually had a
small amount of time to
clean my house again, she learns how to
wreak havoc faster than I can
un-wreak it... Not only that, but with her newly discovered
mobility & freedom, she has developed an
alarming fondness for things like
electrical outlets,
stairs, plastic bags, toilets, doors, electrical cords... pretty much anything that can
shock, damage, suffocate, drown, infect, smash, choke or injure. We have a house full of
baby toys but these safe/boring playthings hold
no interest. I know that she is really just
delighting in
discovering the world around her, but sometimes it feels more like a
quest for
self-destruction.
This week, she somehow managed to get in the
pantry, where she was
thrilled to discover a canister of
oats. Silly me - I thought I could let her play with it for
60 seconds while I finished in the kitchen. It took much less than that before I looked down and saw
oats all over my floor, with my baby excitedly
sitting in the middle of the pile. Thank goodness for my
Dyson, which I had to use with
one hand, holding my
chubby tornado on my hip with the other hand - after it became clear that the oats on the floor were just a
clever distraction so that she could start
climbing up the stairs without interference...
Busy, busy, busy!

I am not looking forward to those days. Elora is already reaching for the electical plugs and anything she is not supposed to play with. They are so busy and so fast, thank goodness they are also so dang cute.
Very nice photo montage!!
