My Very Own Young Author

One of my favorite memories of 4th grade will definitely be Madi's discovery of creative writing.
She has really enjoyed writing for the first time this year and shown a real talent.

Her wonderful teacher has played a huge role in encouraging her to enjoy writing and especially to write descriptively. When it came time for her to pick two students to participate in the annual Young Author's Tea at school, Madi was so hoping to be one of the kids chosen. So much so, that I had to give her the "We'll have our own party with brownies at home" speech, just in case.

She was ecstatic to be one of the two kids from her class to get to participate! Hooray!! I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Even though it meant leaving Bayli at home, which I hardly ever do (thanks Grandma & Grandpa!!). Even though it meant going to school with a non-contagious fever of 102 due to a second bout of mastitis.

It was a great opportunity to spend time with just Madi. I'm so proud of her!

Here's the story that got Madi published in the school library... :)

My Life as a Monkey
by Madi Fuchs
Since when could a girl turn into a monkey?! I turned into a monkey! It was the last day of March and I knew that I was going to turn into someone or something else. How I knew was that on the last day of every month I turned into someone else. My
name is Amy, I am ten years old and I live in Colorado Springs .
It happened just then. The lights went black and the next thing I knew, I was in a scorching hot place. I looked down and realized I had no skin but fur! The fur was so hot, sizzling hot. What could I be? I wondered, what could I be?
It was just then that I realized what I was. I was a monkey! I was surrounded with monkeys. Hilarious, furry, banana eating, monkeys. I wanted to know where I was. I went to another monkey and asked. I could not believe it when he said “Africa!” What?! I live in Colorado! How could I ever get back? I didn't know what to do.
Africa was skin sizzling hot, the ground felt so hot that if you cracked an
egg on it, the egg would probably cook. There was absolutely no wind at all. All
that you could see was monkeys fighting over bananas and a few branches of trees
that had leaves. The only thing I could smell was the hideous smell of monkeys
that are not being taken care of by humans. There was nothing here to taste with
the exception of the sand that sometimes got kicked in your mouth by a monkey.
After being a monkey for what felt like a year, but was three weeks, I got the perfect idea of how to get back. This is how it works. I wait one more week, then I would wish to be something with wings. To turn back into myself, I have to go back to my house, get in my bed, and turn back into myself.
One week later, I wished I could be a butterfly. The lights went black and I was a butterfly! And, I was in the middle of Africa. I began to fly. After flying for what felt like forever, I was back in Colorado Springs. I was flying as fast as I could. I could finally see my house and I was flying so rapidly. I was home. I flew to my room, and flew down to my bed. It went black, and all of a sudden I was myself.
It felt phenomenal to be me! I looked at my calendar and realized it was only April first . So I had only been gone one day. Although I did enjoy my life as a monkey, I would rather be myself!

That's my girl! :) We're so proud of you.
